Tritium

The Challenge

DC fast charging architectures are continually evolving to meet automotive manufacturers and market demands. Tritium was at a critical juncture in the delivery of the most recent iteration of their product roadmap.

With new hardware solutions and features being requested constantly in an ever-changing marketplace, Tritium needed to accelerate the delivery of some key software functionality to meet client demands.

In addition to this, the Tritium development team was mid-way through a long-term project to bolster their CI/CD environment and was still working towards finalising their end to end test automation. This Automation was key to meeting critical quality control milestones necessary for the long-term health of their globally distributed network of DC fast charging solutions.

“When it comes to software, often you hit a quandary where you need resources fast, to develop and deliver on project requirements. Unfortunately, sometimes the spin up time to get a new developer to the point of productivity can be longer than the time you have available to get the additional features to market.

We had used PZ successfully in the past to bootstrap a full development team for a new product initiative, but this time when we brought this particular challenge to PZ, It was obvious our need was very different to PZ’s normal “shake and bake” delivery teams capabilities.

Working closely with PZ, we collectively identified key elements of the Tritium software environment that were a suitable match to the resources PZ could bring to bear on the project.

This enabled a smart coupling of discreet PZ expertise in areas of Continuous Integration and Test Automation, but focussing first on the CI/CD environments required for the urgently needed new software functionality.

Our collaboration with PZ helped us in two ways:

1.  It released key Tritium developers to focus on the complex and unique software feature that was required for the successful outcome of the project; and

2.  PZ were able to bring an incredible level of capability to building the automated testing environments needed to both help deliver this new feature and optimise the more general CI/CD environment that our developers were developing into.

The outcome allowed us to rapidly close the problematic feature gap, improve feature velocity and enable this key functionality to be deployed into the market on time. While PZ was helping us to hit our milestones, PZ were also helping us to improve CI/CD pipelines and feature velocity into the future.”
